Rough draft in progress. Chapter one is on hold while I'm heavily into volume two of "And He Leads Them".

Rating: NC-17, eventually
Pairing: J/f, B/f, B/m implied, and of course J/B

At this point I don't know what-all will happen that might need a warning. There will certainly by mature language, explicit male-male goings-on, and possibly violence, hateful language, and explicit male-female goings-on. No rape, no deaths other than original characters or what's canonical.

Spoilers for all sorts of episodes.

Disclaimer: Pet Fly Productions owns all things Sentinel -- the original universe, the characters, the concept, the spirit animals, etc. -- but the words, this variation on the universe, and some of the characters (Incacha's son, Jean-Pierre, Jennifer Modesto, Marie Peckham-Prince, the [spoiler deleted] bad guy, and assorted minor characters) are Gina's. Gina isn't making any profit.

Welcome to the IGR alternate history!

Snippets may not get posted solely in chronological order; check the "date posted" or "date last revised" of each bit. I'll boldface the bits that have been posted w/in the last month.

Although the sections of the story below are listed according to the name of the ep they are most closely related to in time, the story arcs are not constructed to fit this format, and eventually I'll be breaking this muthuh up into five or so volumes made up of, say, six chapters each. At that point, all the sections will be re-named and the URLs changed accordingly.

Oh, and beware: Later-posted parts may not appear consistent with earlier-posted parts, 'cause I might get behind on posting the revisions that keep the earlier parts consistent.

The appendices are not posted yet, either. The first two appendices below should not be necessary to your comprehension of the story by the time the final draft is done, but I thought someone might find them interesting. The second two appendices are almost stories in their own right; they tell the personal histories that have shaped alternate-Blair and alternate-Jim.

Navel Contemplating

Why this AU?

Of the fundamental themes of "The Sentinel", the one that gets truly shabby treatment is the story of Blair Sandburg's growth into his archetypal role as the Wise One. He's caught between his role as a scientist and his role as a mentor / partner / nurturer, roles that in our culture are not considered closely compatible, and I'm attempting to represent this conflict by creating actual communities -- that of the sentinologists / perceptologists and that of the Guides - who each have their own claims on Blair's time and their own expectations of how he will approach the problems presented by Jim Ellison.

The Blair we meet at the beginning of this AU is scarred by the battle between the two communities, by his attempts to form a bridge between the communities, by his decade-long struggle to make himself into a living compromise between the cultural baggage of "Mysticism versus Scientific Method". As time passes and new experiences accumulate, he acquires only questions and doubts, and a partner he never sought but can't leave.

That's not where the story closes, of course; I just don't want to spoil you.
